Peugeot 5008 SUV — Hybrid Option for 2023
It seems that the French brand Peugeot is fully engaged in the process of developing a new 48-volt mild hybrid technology (MHEV), which is the system that will be tested on the Peugeot 5008.
The Peugeot 5008 is one of the most popular seven-seater SUVs on the European market and is the big sister of the Peugeot 3008. The new Peugeot 5008 Hybrid features a diesel engine and electric motor, which have been designed to work together in order to offer more power and better fuel efficiency.
The 5008 Hybrid is a hybrid electric vehicle that has an electric motor and a gasoline engine. The vehicle is powered by the battery pack and the gasoline engine, which can be used to recharge the battery pack. The 5008 Hybrid also comes with regenerative braking, which means it captures energy from braking to charge the battery pack.
Despite its commercial success, the 5008 has a weak point that prevents it from facing its main competitors, which is the range of engines that it offers exclusively where the 5008 is offered with conventional petrol and diesel engine and there is no electric version of it, while it offers many Competitors bearing the ECO label and/or the 0 Emissions environmental label from the DGT (General Directorate of Traffic) with all the mobility benefits of obtaining these labels, examples of which include the Kia Sorento and Seat Tarraco.
For its part, Peugeot decided to start working and solve this problem, as work has already begun on developing a new 48-volt hybrid photovoltaic (MHEV) technology. Technology that will be applied to both the 3008 and 5008.
Currently, the French brand in southern Europe is doing road tests with prototypes, and a number of photographers have taken spy shots of the mild hybrid versions of the 3008 and 5008 in development.
From the prototype pictured, at first glance, it looks like we are in front of a traditional “5008” but with focus we will find small clues that show that “something” is hiding under the hood, as the identification sticker attached to the car’s windshield warns of the dangers of a high-voltage lithium-ion battery, and that’s why It is one of the irrefutable pieces of evidence that it is not a traditional 5008.
At the heart of the new 5008 Hybrid, we find a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (e-DCT). An electric motor is also integrated into the transmission itself, delivering power (between 24 hp) and 33 hp respectively.
The transmission is combined with a 0.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, which will allow movement in all-electric mode in select cases, by the way, and the new transmission will also be connected to a 1.2-liter PureTech petrol engine with 130 hp.
Peugeot’s new mild hybrid system will be ready in the first quarter of 2023. The fact is that the development process has suffered several delays due to a global shortage of chips, and the new Peugeot 5008 with MHEV technology will go on sale before the end of next year.
